Coffee with milk look to oil - Head Gasket leak etc.

I have just recovered from the most recent repairs for my '96 9000 with its 140,000 miles. It would not start, and eventually, through trial and error at the garage (new battery, talk of starter motor, and testing of starter motor)they discovered that it needed a new ignition switch. I realize that this was probably not that easy to work out so understand that it took the trial and error.
Now, yesterday, I had the oil and anti freeze checked where I get my gas, and could see that there was a creamy coffee look on the top of the oil stick. There is also oil leaking down the right side of the head gasket...I think that is what it is. I have a picture and have posted it to the Members Gallery and would be grateful for comment. The pic was taken on 13 January.
There is no increase so far in the temperature guage, and yesterday was the first time that I saw the oil stick look like this. The coffee color seemed to be just at the top of the stick. I can't buy a new car; don't have the money and so much has been put into this one! If I change out the oil now at the garage, will that help. There are no SAAB mechanics up here in the far north of Maine, but I have been going to the same garage for six years.
From the picture I have posted, is it possible to tell if it is very serious or more simple than replacing the head gasket. Thanks. Please help.
Mary
