I was also in a similar situation of venturing into the dark world of splicing the cables and doing a frankenstein DIN to RCA cable. After one ruined cable on my attempt I ended up just splicing into the factory output0 speaker wiring harness from under the seat.
By the way, regardless of the Wattage claims on your headunit, you will rarely, if ever, find a head unit that will put out cleaner power than a dedicated amp rated at 50% less. There's a reason most amps are the size of headunits.
