This a a follow up to my post about the 1994 Saab 9000 CSE turbo 5-speed that I bought yesterday.
I just found out that the car has an alarm. I found this out by using the key to open the passenger side door and then I reached in to unlock the passenger side rear door to get out some of the papers I need to sign up for insurance. I live in an extremely low crime part of town and I would like to disable the alarm completely. Is that possible?
I also think I have cruise control because there is a little button that says "set" on the turn signal arm as well as a toggle switch that I think says "on" or "tip". Since I don't have a manual I am assuming that this is the cruise control, but I do not know what "tip" means.
Lastly, is there an easy way to tell if I have a traction control system? I heard that in later years people could turn this off, but I am not even sure if I have it.
Here were my remaining questions from the previous thread about shifting smoothly.
1. Is there a downloadable source for the owner's manual or does anybody know a good place to buy them. The one on Ebay was close to $80, which seemed a little steep.
2. Has anybody had the wood dash kit installed on an older 9000? Is there an official brand that SAAB uses at the factory or are they all aftermarket options. If so, which one is the best?
3. I have a complicated stereo system in my car. It has a cassette unit at teh top and a single cd player underneath. I thiink both parts are made by clarion. In any case, the unit is locked and beeping as part of the antitheft system. The local saab mechanic said that I would need to hook the car up to a battery charger and turn the key to the accessory on positon and then leave the stereo on and beeping for 90 minutes before it would reset and I could enter the proper code, which I have now thanks to an overlooked business card in the center console. I had assumed it was just scribbles from a former owner until I looked more closely and saw that it said "Radio Code Green saab cse turbo." Is there any easier way to get the radio on? I don't have a battery charger and it could be days before I figure out where to get my hands on one for an hour and a half.
I would also be interested in getting a keyless entry/ locking thing but I don't know if this has to be factory installed or not and if so, how to tell if my car is pre-wired for it.
Thanks again,
Andy
