As others have said, if you start off with a 9000 in good condition with records, you should be fine. Your situation reminds me of my brother when he went to college. He had an 89 900 Turbo. Great car. The problem was he didn't know how to work on it. Each time something broke or needed replacement, he had to take it to an indy and pay $80/HR labor plus all the parts were marked-up. When I lived closer to him, his maintenance costs were practically nothing. I did the labor and bought the parts at list price -- huge difference. Any car can be a money pit. Learning how to fix them can save you thousands of dollars. On the other hand, you could buy a Toyota and be bored to tears. Your upkeep would probably be less. It really all depends on YOU being able to diagnose a problem and fix it yourself.
