The reason to use the iridium plugs is that they hold their gap longer....like 18K miles. Everyone I've talked to says the 'tried and true' standard plugs are crap at 10K miles. I bought my car 10 months ago, and subsequently found that these cars basically cook everything above the valve cover.... heat is what destroys DI cassettes, vacuum lines and fuel regulators. The biggest bang for the buck was throwing away the original PCV check valve, and buying the $16 valve from eEuroparts. These cars need tight vacuum lines/seals to achieve good performance.
