Question about fuel tank strap mounting

Hello Everyone --
I have a 98 9K CSE with ~190K miles. A week ago both fuel tank straps failed simultaneously. I had the car towed back to my home and placed an order for replacement fuel tank straps, which arrived yesterday.
I managed to get the nuts off of both studs intact, but I am now confronting another problem. The straps are secured in the front of the tank by T-shaped mounting points / brackets, for lack of a better description. The mounting bracket which I can see, on the passenger side, is so corroded as to be effectively useless. I have not yet investigated the condition of the other bracket, but I think it is a safe bet that it is in similar condition.
The bracket appears to be a separate piece of metal, secured to the body with another nut-on-stud arrangement, but I have not yet attempted to remove it (the task for this morning.) If it is removable, are the bracket pieces orderable parts? Neither eEuro nor several other online sources list anything that seem to correspond. Assuming I cannot order replacements, does anyone have any suggestions about how I might fabricate a suitable substitute?
Any advice would be much appreciated. . .
Jason
