Yes, the turbo is still strong after all these years and miles. I have receipts going back to 16K, and the previous owner was faithful about oil changes and other maintenance.
I agree the MAP sensor is probably ok. Per Fred's idea I found I can blow air through the actuator, which points to a hole in the diaphragm. Considering the heat and who knows how many thermal cycles, it makes sense that the actuator is at fault.
The throttle body intake elbow is in good shape and securely attached. I can't suck air though the bypass valve. I'm going to replace the actuator. If that solves the problem, them I'm ready upgrade to fpt. Thanks Ken!
