I have the same car, with 60K miles. I agree with these posters that you have the symptoms of fuel cutout. From experience, and talking with others on this board with 1996 CS cars having 140K+ miles, I would look for:
1)cracked vacuum line to or failed wastegate diaphragm, 2) cracked vacuum line. restricted fuel pressure from failing fuel regulator.
If the fuel pump has been recently replaced and the regulator is original, I recommend replacing the fuel pressure regulator.
