Its hard to imagine that over night there would be a valve issue. Valve lifters that have leak down should pump up in a few minuets, unless you have other issues like low oil pressure.
First do a compression check, that will tell you if a valve is bent. When the spark plugs are out, inspect them for other mischief, they should all look the same.
20mm!! that is much more than normal valve travel, you must mean 2.0mm. At one time I had a tool for pumping lifters apart with a grease gun. Never found any appreciable debris in a lifter. They were reassembled and used for many thousands of miles.
Its uncommon for lifters to be an issue in Saab engines. If the oil is really cruddy or contaminated they may leak down. The only time I've seen bad lifters was in a 8 valve engine that had been over revved. This engine used solid lifters and most of them were cracked.
