I agree the 1/2 gallon didn't make a difference. I'll check with the wife about the "whoosh". I hadn't thought about that. I wouldn't think the tank would collapse sitting at the beach for a few hours but I guess it's possible. If it happens again I'll have her open the gas cap and close it again and listen. Then try to start it. I don't believe there is a "pre-pump" on the late models. It looks like a venturi device of some sort. There is a by-pass line coming off the pressure side of the pump that goes back to the fuel strainer/pick-up. BTW, I looked at the difference between the pump ass'y out of my 1990 9KT and my 93 CSE (same part number as the 97) and it looks like the only difference is the fuel pick-up strainer. I bet I could use either.
