You don't list your pedigree of car ownership or your mechanical abilities so it's hard to say if a 9000 is for you. Here's my take:
Regardless of reliability or maintenance, you will be hard pressed to find ANY car made from 1994 through 2009 that offer such a high score in areas of safety, fuel economy, cargo utility, highway driving performance or overall driving characteristics at anywhere approaching the entry level price.
You will need to do maintenance. Some jobs will suck more than others.
Never purchase a Saab without a PPI done by an Indy Saab shop.
If you don't have a reputable Independant Saab repair shop within close proximity to your house (~30miles), I wouldn't recommend a purchase.
I'm still impressed with my 9000 Aero 5spd after about 4yrs of ownership. 250K miles (100K during my ownership) and it's still my preferred car to drive on trips compared to a 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan.
