You want tires in pairs (fronts and backs) to be as close to the same tread depth as possible.
Skip the used tire. That's just throwing money down the drain and really putting your safety at risk (or at the very least setting yourself up for extreme disappointment).
I've been very happy with Michelin's Pilot Exalto P/S (they also have an All Season version). Very good balance between tread life and performance (about 30K) plus they have very good handling in wet and dry.
