This discussion reminds me of all the posts about the wide variety of color bands on 9000 springs. Now we've also seen wide variability in the spark plug spec. For Bill Davies' 97 CSE the range is 0.8 - 1.1 mm, possibly a Euro spec. My manual specifies on page 121 a range of 0.9 - 1.1 mm expressed as "1.0 ± 0.1". My owners manual is titled on the cover, "Saab 9000 1996 Owner's Manual". It is copyrighted 1995, and the order number for it is 409466 on the back cover. It's still available for purchase. My CS was exported from Sweden 06/02/96, near the end of the model year. The manual appears to cover the entire range, CS, CSE and Aero. In contrast, all four of your manuals say 1.0 - 1.1 mm. Very strange.

Back on topic, it's true that narrowing the gap is not a technique for increasing gas mileage. The important thing is to be within the correct range. Whatever that is, and now I'm starting to wonder.
