Testing Compression Fittings Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: I guess this is a big automotive no-no, swedespeed7, Wed, 30 Sep 2009 23:41:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If you are still in the Chicago area, I found a shop called Lake County Hydraulics up north near Waukegan to repair the clutch hose on my Audi; the part was hideously expensive, out of stock and was going to take at least a week (maybe) to arrive - car was dead without it. They used compression fittings and certified brake hose (better than the OEM clutch hose) on the old hard lines for the repair; what was key is that they tested the result with ~3000 psi of pressure - not sure how one would do this with a brake line in situ. They seem to do custom hydraulic systems for race cars, so they might know how to do this reliably.
How about cutting the old line just at the fitting, and using a flare tool and the proper connector (if you can find it)? I think that this is Standard Operating Procedure, but have never run into this problem, except when I mangled one of the very short lines from the soft hose to the caliper, which I replaced with a used part. Since then, I let someone else change these lines!!!
