Like the Exclaim UHPs, these are not the General Tires of old. Continental Tire of Germany purchased both General (US) and Gislaved (Sweden) in the last few years, and took the Gislaved Nordfrost III snow tire and relabeled it - at least that is the internet buzz on it. My set is made in Germany, if I recall correctly.
On snowy days last year, I would ALWAYS prefer taking the SAAB 9000 with snow tires over our Audi A4 Quattro with new Kumho Ecsta ASX all-season tires. I never got stuck, even in urban parking situations where the snow is piled up on the side of the road, and felt much more in contol of the car while driving. Quattro has its place in getting the car going, but control is king in avoiding other cars that don't have reasonable tires!
The only downside issues were snow tire noise, sloppier handling (but not awful) and the perception of a lower "Q" speed rating of 99 mph - but hey, it's winter so where are you going to cruise over 100 mph?
By the way, I bought the 205/60-15 size, not the recommended 195/65-15 size.
