Recently I bled the clutch (using the Motive Bleeder) on my 1993 9000 Aero. Below I'll give a before, during and after assessment.
------BEFORE BLEEDING-----
The clutch released very close to the floor.
The clutch grabs well, and with disc itself doesn't seem worn, no slipping etc.
No fluid loss in the system that I can tell.
No wet spots on the floor.
Clutch Master cylinder replaced (professionally) about a year ago.
The clutch pedal could be pushed about an inch/inch and a half before getting to "resistance".
I wanted instant resistance, and to have the clutch release further "up" in the stroke, so there was no chance of clutch drag if the pedal wasn't stabbed all the way to the floor.
----DURING... HOW EXACTLY I BLED THE SYSTEM------
Here are the steps I took.
1.) Bought two big jugs of fresh DOT4.
2.) Have Motive Power Bleeder.
3.) Test fitted Motive dry. Made sure it would hold 16psi and not leak.
4.) Disconnected Power Bleeder, and filled up about 1.3 of the way with clean DOT4.
5.) Fitted a clear hose to the slave bleed nipple, and stuck the other end in a jub of clean DOT4 (not full, but covered the end).
6.) Filled the reservoir, and refitted the Motive, and pressurized to 15-16psi.
7.) cracked the bleed nipple (13mm) on the slave.
8.) At this point, no fluid really flowed, so I slowly moved the clutch pedal up and down to start fluid moving.
9.) Repeated 8, until the fluid ran clean.
10.) Sealed the nipple.
11.) Siphoned off (turkey baster) the extra in the reservoir.
12.) Capped the Reservoir, and tried it.
------RESULTS---------
Immediately after bleeding, the pedal seemd 100% better. It engaged nearly at the top, and released about halfway through the stroke. SUCCESS!
However... After driving it for a day, it is back to what it was before. So questions:
1.) Did I bleed it right? Was stroking the pedal the wrong move? Should the pressure alone have bled it?
2.) I have the updated slave and hard line, and a new master cylinder. If I am somehow leaking, what else could it possibly be? I have no wetness, and I can't find any issues. I don't seem to be leaking. :(
3.) Thoughts? I know it is probably not a huge deal, because the clutch works fine, but now I am obsessed. :)
