Reddish brown sounds like automatic transmission fluid. If it smells like ATF, then there isn't much doubt. The odds of your indy confessing to doing the deed are probably somewhere between slim and none.

You're doing the right thing to replace this fluid. Valvoline makes a fluid called Max Life that has worked well for me, link below.

If you search the board you'll find a method for completely pumping out the system. But the turkey baster method may work well enough. The power steering reservoir holds about 16 ounces (1 pint) when filled to the max line. The capacity of the entire PS system (including hoses, rack, pump and reservoir) isn't stated in the Saab manual. The Haynes manual says it is 0.75 liters (0.79275 quarts), which is about 25 ounces. This means about 9 ounces remain in the system when you suck out the reservoir. You are sucking out about 65% of the fluid each time. By the time you've done this 3 times, you've sucked out in theory about 95% of the contaminants in the system. After the fourth pass only 1.5% remains.
