I have a 1991 9000 turbo that we bought two years ago with 135,000 miles on it (now at 160,000). The car is a total blast to drive, with a turbocharger that spools up very quickly thereby minimizing turbo lag, and we get 30 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in suburban driving. The final drive ratio on the 1992 and earlier cars was different than in the post 1992 cars, resulting in their having better acceleration, at the sacrifice of a few miles per gallon. The car is relatively easy to do DIY work on. It sounds like you have stumbled onto a real find!
