There isn't always something you can do, at least not without a bunch of phone time. And if you aren't a freq flyer on the carrier you don't have much clout. It could be the other days are already booked fairly tight. And I'm betting your tickets are lowest fare, non-refundable. Right? This gives you less clout. FYI, longer layovers are not uncommon these days.
See what happens when you call the airline. Explain that your travel plans are flexible so a different day is no problem. If it doesn't work right away, you can politely ask to go up to their manager. However, the flights on the other days may not have room, so you can't easily be moved. And they may have already moved some of their freq flyers with flexibility to those days.
I fly 60K+ a year (all on one airline)and rarely have trouble, but when I do I find that being polite, persistent and reasonable works wonders. The airline folks deal with a lot of a-holes and being nice can count for a lot.
HOWEVER... if you do get them to change you, expect to get hit with a change fee. You may be able to get them to waive that. Or not. The airlines are all terrible, but sometimes you can make it work. And being nice does help.
Good luck!
