IMO it's a mech fault. I had an "AudioFool" sony cd unit in my Home system. For a couple of years it drove me nuts with it's faulty disc eating / spitting out antics. Sony Service could not fix the problem.
Eventually by DIY fooling with it I found that a frustratingly simple adjustment of the eject mechanism "Fixed" it to as new.
So much for skilled/expensive tech services.
All for naught though as I had already bought and was using a replacement.
Short answer: buy a new Head unit for $100 or so you can buy a far better sounding unit.
