1993 CS

Long-story short, my alarm started going off while I was inputting the radio code at a stop light last week (engine running) and diagnosis was due to a low battery causing the alarm to "think" the battery was being disconnected (the main car battery). I've swapped out the battery, and now the radio doesn't work. I haven't had a chance to mess around with it yet, but does anyone have any insight with this? I have yet to inspect the fuses, and also plan on removing the radio to check the fuses in the back of the radio slot.

I suspect the radio is original, but I replaced the radio slot with a brand-new Saab OEM slot last summer due to a faulty internal connection (there is a circuit board inside of it). If I replace the radio, is the radio code vehicle-specific or radio-specific (i.e. do I use the original code or a new one)? Does an aftermarket radio require a code also?
