Unlike the early 900's, the NG900 top is a series of limit switches, solenoids and other useless crap for the tonneau cover. When one goes south, the whole setup goes into lockdown and won't work. I've heard that you can manually operate the setup, but to fix it right, you need to take it to a dealer ($$$$!!!) they fix the part, THEN need to recalibrate the whole operation with a computer. It isn't a simple procedure.
If the top IS working, assume it won't in a while, and assume you'll have to lower and raise by hand.
If the top is NOT working, use it as a BIG bargaining chip.
Drivetrain wise...the 2.0 is a good motor. The cars are pretty body-soft, in terms of handling and what not, but overall, they're good cars. Wouldn't be my first choice in a replacement (I'm a DIE HARD 9k guy).
