Front regulators have spot welds at the bottom bracket that often like to break. This can cause the "hitch" you're describing and will ultimately fail at some point.
BUT!!! I believe a contributor to this condition is when the bolts securing the regulator assembly to the door work a bit loose, and the whole assembly is allowed to shift back and forth, putting more stress on these welds.
As Derf recommends, take a look behind the door panel. First place to look is the welds joining the lower bracket to the window track. If they're not broken, check all the securing nuts for tightness.
If they are broken, best bet is to replace the regulator (rewelding is an option but sometimes repairs don't hold up long).
Of course, give the regulator a good look for lubrication and any obstructions.
Also check the bolts attaching the window glass to the regulator.
Worst case, you should be able to find a decent used replacement on fleabay for low bux.
