plugs are out... Posted by TODDMO [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: The head WAS "squished" during the heating, Mr. Bubble, Sat, 12 Jun 2010 20:26:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The engine turned freely prior to removal. Yes, the cams were out during the heating process. Initially, I thought it was valve/piston interference. I stopped and checked my marks. #1 piston TDC, lobes are horizontal and perpendicular, sprockets align with middle of cam bearing, notches on cams are almost perfect. I stuck a small screwdriver in the sparkplug hole of #1 to verify exact TDC. Made a mark on harmonic balancer at this position. Also, I can see 0 degree mark at flywheel. I can't be 180 out, can I? I don't think the cams will hit their marks if I am.
The cams do not seem to be sitting in the journels square (round?!). There is a small gap at some locations between the camshaft bearing caps where they meet/bolt to the head. They are torqued to spec. Does that help in diagnosis?
