My Volvo with a straight six is running just cherry for many years after having to heat up and press the head somewhat straight again and then machine the rest to get it completely flat.
Since a 6 cyl have a much longer head, it warps too much and the cam shafts bind in the bores and it would not be possible to just resurface the bottom leaving the cam bores curved.
I pressed it back to 0.2mm out of flatness (from 0.6mm) which made the cam shafts turn freely again and then shaved off the rest.
Did the same to another 6 cyl also with good results.
