Yessss.. we have All heard the Swollen inner part of oem rubber brake lines acting as a one way valve. However I've Only ever encountered ..one.. such creature on my '71 Beetle on / about it's 34th Birthday.
These are VERY rare in real life.
I'm thinking that it's unlikely that's what's wrong with yours.
But, anything is possible.
Personally I'd be rebuilding the Caliper.. First.. certainly so as it sounds like your hose connections are something in Mad Max condition.
