My guess is your mechanic replaced a little hose that runs from the turbo to the wastegate actuator. The hose is about 6 inches long and has a 90 degree bend near the turbo. It is prone to tear at that bend, resulting in the wastegate remaining closed regardless of boost. When that happens, boost builds under hard acceleration to the point where the car's computer momentarily shut off the fuel, resulting in voilent bucking. Replacing this hose is a DIY repair.
If this hose is intact, then the wastegate actuator may have a hole in its diaphragm. This can be determined by blowing into a hose connected to the wastegate actuator. If you are able to move air, then the diaphragm is torn and you need a new wastegate actuator. Replacing the actuator is a DIY repair, but not much fun.
