So how safe is a 9000 really?

I was just watching an old episode of Top Gear where they were talking about European NCAP safety ratings of various cars. I went to look up the 9k's rating on the NCAP website but it's too old to be included. Of course when the 9k was introduced in 1986 it was one of the safest cars on the road, but I'm wondering how my 95 9kCSE or my wife's 98 9kCSE would stack up against, say a 2010 Chevy Malibu or some other middle of the pack modern car like that? Is it a lot less safe or just marginally so?
I see the 9-5 does very well in their ratings and that's one of the things that might finally force me to part with my trusty old 9k (but I really don't want to!).
