Thanks to all for the valuable help regarding my 6 Oct. post.
Some things have changed and coolant problems persist.
Any guidance, or similar experience will be appreciated.

I still lose coolant and it is up to about a quart a day that I have to put back in but not always every time. No coolant appears to be lost on a few rare days.

In the beginning, about a month ago, coolant would belch from the expansion tank cap only after I stopped the engine. Then I would add about half a quart when cool. Now it all seems to come from the heater core and no coolant comes from under the tank cap anymore and it is up to a quart per drive now. Also sometimes the heater works fine like it should and other times I’ll get very weak heat even when on Hi.

Could the system develop too much pressure, maybe from the start of a head gasket leak? It started coming out the expansion tank cap and then after a few weeks of extra pressure the next weak spot was the heater core so now the leak is there. Could this be the case? Even though the engine runs fine now, could a HG leak be starting?

If a HG leak is starting, what about pouring some HG repair stuff into the cooling system and following the procedure? I am not sure it is worth the $2k cost of a formal HG repair job that I have been quoted. I am not sure if that is even the problem. Could it be something else?

I have noticed my previously consistent 22mpg has dropped to about 17mpg.
This is my only car and daily driver which has run just fine for years till now.
It is a ’96 9k cs with 155k miles.
