They can really mess with your head.
When I did the heater core on my daughter's '95 CS all the procedures I found were from a pre-'93 version. So it lacked any mention of the big wiring loom that passes through the false bulkhead. Not a big deal, but it slows you down a lot while you figure out what to do. So after the job was done I wrote my own procedure that's in the FAQ on this site in the 9000 section.
Others give you just enough info so you can do the job if you understand how a car works and is put together, but not enough if you're new to auto repair and building your skills. So you can get in over your head.
And ya gotta think. Some of the procedures tell you to do dumb things, like remove the hood to do the heater core. So you have to think when you use these and do what makes sense.
