Could be anything :-) starting from the Vacuum check valve the red/white one, rotted vac lines, the Runoff solenoid (on firewall next to the MAP sensor) 30 ohms when cold, above 50 ohms when hot and it's dead.
Then yer into worn plastic bushings on the Throttle flapper linkage (internal, it's gotta come apart to check) Possibly dirty/worn potentiometer in TB, Dead TCS ECU ( I have one of those as a souvenier).
PITA basically .. but if methodical Most of it can be fixed.
You will need access to an ISAT gizmo though..
Swapping to 5.5 trionic is 'doable' but you will need to go to the Ecuproject.com for the info /background req'd I would think.
It ain't a trivial task, by any exaggeration.
