Auto tranny pump noise Posted by skibumm100 [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I stopped by at the local Saab indy garage with the 97 CSE this morning. I asked him to give a listen to the engine. It's the noisiest Saab I've ever owned and I was looking for an opinion as to what it might be. I changed the timing chain and the serp belt idlers and tesioner when I did the HG a few months back. His opinion is that it's the auto tranny pump making the noise. It's also starting to leak tranny fluid so the input shaft seal is probably gone. His estimate to replace the seal was 6 hours at $75/hr. It's been noisy for a loooong time. I wonder how much damage the tranny has suffered? The car drives and shifts fine. I wonder if I replace the pump and flush the tranny if it will live for a few more years? I'm amazed he can do a tranny R&R in 6 hours. Has anyone else replaced a pump and had the rest of the tranny go south shortly thereafter? I'm inclined to spend the money to do the repair but I don't want to throw good money after bad. The car has a little over 150K on the clock. The body is starting to show a little rust but not bad. Structurally sound. I have a 13 yr old so I could pass this car on in acouple of years..... after disabling max boost. ;-)
