I have a ticking noise in my '93 Aero. I am trying to figure out if it is "sticky lifters" which I have read about in many threads here on saabnet over the past few days or possibly timing/balance chaine guide noise. I live in Summit County CO so most mornings are below (sometimes well below) freezing temps. It is noticably louder when the car first starts up and calms down quite a bit once warm but is still present (even after a 15 mile drive to work). I have sat there for several minutes listening and it will seem to go away at times completely for about 10-15 seconds and then return. Sometimes the rate of tick will increase with RPM but most times it just goes away completely untill the car returns to idle.
The car currently has 160k miles is running good with plenty of power/boost.

If it is a "sticky lifter," at what point does it become a real concern vs. an annoyance?
