Inner Driver Help Needed - Do I need a press!?

I set out to replace the inner drivers on my '87 9kT 5 speed this weekend and am stuck!
I got the passenger side assembly out but now can't remove the inner driver from the bearing housing. I removed the beefy circlip and went to town with a hammer and block or wood, but the driver barely budged. I have have various bearing pullers, but don't see a way to attach them.
Do I need to take the assembly to a machine shop to have the driver pressed out? Is it the same for the other side, which I haven't dismantled yet?
Thanks for any help!
Craig
