Replacement of ACC Unit with manual controls

Has anyone here ever replaced their 9000's Automatic Climate Control (ACC) unit with the manual unit that came in the base 9000s sold in the US in (I think) only 1991 and 1992? This manual system was very similar to the controls in a classic 900 - 3 knobs, one for fan speed, one for temperature control, and one for air distribution (defrost, dash vents, or floor vents). It also had two separate on-off switches which went in the space under the clock that has the cabin temp sensor in the ACC models. These switches were for recirculate vs. fresh air, and on-off for the air conditioning.
I have a bad ACC unit in my '96 9000 CS, and have a spare manual unit that I picked up in Europe. I would like to replace my ACC unit with the manual unit (I think it would be a lot more trouble-free than the electronic ACC unit), and would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this modification, or who thinks they know how to do it. I'm particularly interested in how to connect the on-off switches for recirculation and air conditioning to the existing ACC wiring. Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for any input you have.
