I do this on absolutely every single vehicle of mine that I put brakes on. For some reason, brand new pads fit too tightly, to properly move backwards once you let off the brake pedal. When you hit the brakes, they move in, grabbing the rotor, but since they bind up in their "holders" (for lack of a better term), they don't slide back, and they just burn and burn against the rotor.
I take pads, put them in a vise, and with an angle grinder, grind down the metal backing plate until it literally wobbles in the bracket that holds them in place. This insures that they will not burn against the rotors when the brakes are not on.
It could also be that you just have 2 different composition pads between front and rear, or more agressive rotors front to rear. Who knows...
