The problem with setting the ACC on AUTO, is the compressor runs a lot when it is not needed, it cycles anytime the ambient temperature is above 32*. A/C is always available if it is needed for defogging windows, etc. The 9000 ventilation system is good enough, we typically do not use the A/C until the outside temperature is above 70*. If you have a garage, AUTO has the annoying feature of running the fan wide open, pumping cold out side air into the warmer interior, and causing one heck of a cold draft, plus making a bunch of noise. In cold weather we do not use the fan until the engine is warm enough for the heater to work. A car that is 50* (minimum thermostat setting for the garage) is far better than a torrent of 0* air
Compressor seals are not the issue they were years ago. I’ve never had a Saab that leaked refrigerant, and the A/C was only run in the summer.
