the throwout bearing is not intended to be in constant contact.
1/4" seems a bit much though.
Did? you fit the spring inside the slave cyl rubber bellows?
That's made to keep the throwout bearing close to the pressure plate.
But then why is the slave cyl piston retreating excessively after extending during use?
Faulty hydraulic check valve in the master possibly?
