I could probably figure some of this out if I dug into the roof, but nothing beats having a process to follow.

The car I just bought as my DD whistles regardless of temp and your description makes sense with respect to the way I can stop the noise by pushing up on the roof when it's in the closed position. My older '96 (the one you did the PS pump on last June when ours died on a trip west) is on its way from NM to CA. It usually only makes noise when it's cold out, so no worries there for now.

Hopefully I can play with it soon. But warm weather is here, so it's not super urgent--just on the to-do list. The drains are fine (lots of rain lately) and the weird ends that trap all the grunge and plug up are long gone on both cars.
