Just made some more resistance measurements of the suspect ABS sensor. Started out at 400K Ohms ! !. Unfortunately the ABS light was not checked to see if it was on, it should have been. Turned the steering wheel full right to reach the sensor cable, and the resistance went to 1060 Ohms, No matter how much, turning of the wheels, wiggling, bending, or pulling (within reason) of the cable changed the resistance. Will have to examine the cable thoroughly for any holes or breaks that may have allowed salt to cause internal corrosion and intermittent highly variable resistance. Internal corrosion could extend for some distance along the cable. Knowing where the continuity break is would be helpful before attempting a slice, if the break is at or very near the sensor body, splicing may not be feasible. Disregarding any EMI and longevity affects, the sensor cable could be spliced with zip cord, and work for a while, or until a strong electromagnetic field was encountered. It appears the ABS control only checks sensor circuits for acceptable resistance on power up. Once the car is above a few MPH the sensor signals are checked continuously for excessive difference in frequency. Apparently when the ABS activates at low speeds on dry pavement, the signal amplitude of the bad cable or sensor is reduced to a level it can not be read by the ABS control. When the ABS light is on, ABS does not function.
