No, the selector tab on the trans can get out of alignment. If you cannot roll the car, the parking pawl is set which locks the final drive. Sounds like you pulled the trans out of the car in Park, when it is advisable to have done this in Neutral. Being in Neutral makes it easier to reinsert the stub shaft.
My advise is to:
1. Disconnect the cable only at the trans
2. Raise the front of the car using the front jack point, and rotate one of the wheels to relieve the clamping effect of the parking pawl.
3.Manually move the selector tab to put the trans in Neutral. You'll know its Neutral when both wheels can freewheel independently
4. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
5. Move the console shifter to Park position
6. Now adjust the selector tab on the trans to Park and reattach cable.
