Karen - -

I'm not knocking your mechanic, but many years ago my dad had a car that went dead:

First thing the "mechanic" did was charge up the battery and send him back on the road. Car died again.

NEXT thing the "mechanic" did was sell him a new battery, and send him back on the road. Car died, again, longer this time.

FINAL thing the "mechanic" did was figure out it wasn't charging, and sell him an alternator. Problem fixed.

Have you been seeing any warning lights recently? If charging system warning lights, you could need alternator brushes. Cheapest cure for this is install a voltage regulator-brush holder, but most often mechanics replace the alternator with a rebuilt one.

Another possibility is, alternator might be fine but your battery is so old and weak it won't take much of a charge or hold one. I don't know where you're at but this is moving into seriously cold weather in much of the US, cooler weather in most of US, and a battery that worked fine all summer may be past its limit. And, you use lights much more of the time and also heater blower fan draws a lot of current. If rainy, wipers also. These can mean that even though you had been driving the car, it wasn't really charging the battery because so much of the alternator output was going into running everything else.

In my experience, 9000s seem to have few problems with bad battery terminals or corroded cables, compared to the C900 for instance. If it were corrosion I'd think a good mechanic would jump on it, clean it up and send you off happy. Take a look yourself, if it's there you'll see it.
