last year when I was fixated on a slow leak in my AC.
I'm starting to think that the "claim' of The duracool/ Envioro etc etc Butane gas R134A replacement being a 'bigger' molecule (less likely to leak ) is simply Brochure Babble.. BS.. IMO it's MUCH more prone to leaking than the R134A refrigerant.. as witnessed by any retrofitted setup invariably having leaks.. where NONE existed previously.
I thought it was that same fill valve leaking, which was the cause of charge loss over time, it was leaking a bit, evidenced by a wee hiss when the cap was unscrewed. Phone calls to Duracool's Tech line revealed that it's a standard valve which Most AC shops will stock. Should (?) I choose to replace it.
Was also told that Duracool sells a wierd gizmo (dohhh!) that allows the valve replacement without losing any Gas.
Dunno how effective or what price that thing, as I simply bought a brand new light/blue/green valve cap, screwed it on tight and forgot about my obsession as the valve problem was 'contained' by the fresh cap, with it's fresh sealing O ring.
Easiest path for me was/is to stock up on recharge cans, IF you can find a cheap source(these show up from time to time) OR research using MSR camp fuel bottles as possible large and inexpensive 'refrigerant' supply.
