I hadn't considered a momentary break in the continuity of the sensor, as I have measured resistance hot and cold (both are within range) - but there may be something happening in between. As it warms up the resistance of a NTC-type sensor is supposed to decrease, but it might hit some point during the warmup cycle where it loses continuity, jumps to a high resistance, the ECU sees this as indicating cold coolant and it resets its cold-start cycle.

Eeuro now sells the Bosch replacement part for $32, but yes there are plenty of alternative suppliers in the $10 to $12 range which are worth a try - the sensor is easy to get to on a 9000. Wondering if I need to drain some coolant to replace it (didn't need to on my Audi V6)???
