Still confused by bat & charging..

My car's been reading EDU lowish 7.6- 9 v after startup.
Put a bat charger on it. Now reads 9.6-10v...a years long usual #.
EDU reads, when driving betwixt 13.7 and 13.4.
Last week it was at 13.9-14.1v . Uhh Ohh.
Oddly this AM, before starting the car, the EDU read 12.6v while the battery read 11.6v when directly metered.. Yikes! this can't be good.
Does this mean that, as I suspect, that the VR is dying, or the battery or most likely both, just to add insult to injury?
And what's up with the goofy EDU reading more than there is? Which really makes me wonder at what is actually happening during supposed charging?
Looking for a wee bit of insight so I don't replace both battery and VR needlessly.
