I read somewhere (not saabnet) that 11.89 volts before starting indicates a 0% state of charge in the battery at 80 degrees F. Your battery is on the edge of being fully discharged.
Your charger might help it get through the cold snap and take a load off of the alternator, especially if your trips are usually short.
