For this repair I soldered a length of wire to a new eyelet terminal and used a plastic butt splice connector with screw-on ends to join the wires together. Also stuffed some dielectric grease in the ends to prevent corrosion. (It's pretty high up and away from direct road splash so hopefully it will last a while, the original worked for nearly 15 years.)

I've also had a number of electrical issues with this car that were "repaired" by reflowing solder joints in the affected components. The lead-free solder that was used when these cars were built doesn't seem to hold up very well over time.
