Had a good work session on the 97 this past Sunday with a friend who also has a 97 (and a shop with lift). We both needed to replace the fuel pump, his because it died and mine for preventative reason with 150k miles on original. He paid the full price on eeuro while I paid bought $330 on sale at eeuro - decided not to do the pump motor replacement. Some observations doing these replacements.....
- the eeuro tool for remove of the plastic ring works really well, worth the $36?, especially with splitting the cost. Interesting the torque it took for remove of the plastic ring was bout 100+ lb-ft, while mine was maybe 50 lb-ft.
- we squirted some WD40 into valve openings, his white valve fitting broke on removal being reasonably gentle, mine came out easily.
- fyi it seemed the pump orientation with the pump hash mark a bit ccw of the chassis hash was better for the sender arm.
- fuel filter strap and bolt were rusted badly, so used cutoff air tool on strap with my friend with fire extingusher at the ready, was tricky but strap cut easily without drama, could just imagine cutting into filter with sparks flying and kabooom. Banjo bolts cleaned up fine so didn't need the replacmts I bought in case. Suggest buying one or two extra filter connection washers with the rubber around inner perimeter, one of the new ones was a poor overly tight fit but apparently sealed hopefully still sealed!
