You are correct, unfortunately Erikkson Industries no longer provides any parts or service for the transmissions in pre-GM Saabs. As far as I know there is no one left in the U.S. that supports the ZF 4HP18 automatic trans used in the 9000. (In this country that 4-speed automatic was only ever found in a few low-volume cars. The Saab 9000 was probably the most popular of those.)
They can hold up pretty well if you keep the fluid clean and don't abuse them. My '97 CSE had somewhere around 300,000 miles on it when its transmission failed. (The car currently is still on the road with a used trans sourced from a junkyard.)
I've read that the early, 1980s vintage ZF automatics were more problematical and that they were improved in the 1990s. Still if you have problems with one of them in the U.S. at this point you're pretty much on your own.
