You'll have to remove the drivers' side wheel. Both the drain and
level plug are to the right of the driver cup that holds the inner
CV joint. I've got a '97 transaxle, also. I've found that 2 liters
of fluid does the job. My transaxle came out of a salvage yard with
only 4k miles on it, and I thought, at the time, that putting Red Line
MTL was a good idea. However, after reading many posts on this board,
it seemed to me that Red Line was a good idea for 900 transaxles, but
not the 9000. So, after about 5k miles, I changed, again, to Saab
synthetic. I followed the same procedure that many have posted in the
past: drain the old oil, add 1 liter of the synthetic and drive for
a few miles. Drain again and add the 2 liters of synthetic. I did't
bother with the level plug because my past experience was that 2 liters
added to a drained and level vehicle did the trick....hope it helps
